* Have a trusted neighbor, relative or friend pick up mail and newspapers; remove all flyers, doorknob hangers and advertisements that have been placed at your door or mailbox.
* Consider having someone mow your yard; water your outdoor plants.
* Leave a contact number with a trusted neighbor where you can be reached.
* Keep all doors and windows locked.
* Don't post vacation plans on social networking sites; share photos after you return home.
* Be careful about messaging on your answering phone answering machines.
